Installing MeMaw's Custom Graphics

When you receive your package from MeMaw Custom Graphics open the box and remove the products that you ordered. At this time double check for correct spelling, colors that you wanted and size. If this is all correct place them in a warm area to flatten them out.

Clean the surface with a clean rag. If there has been any wax applied to the surface previously, take a clean rag and some alcohol and lightly go over the surface. Vinyl lettering will not stick to a highly waxed surface.

Get an idea where you are going to place each piece of lettering (door numbers, roof number, quarter panels, etc.) Make sure that each piece will fit like you want it to.

This is where I do things a little differently than sign shops. If you know you are working with a perfectly mounted rocker panel (level), measure from the bottom of the rocker to where you want the bottom of the door number to be and make a mark with a grease pencil. Do this in 2 or 3 places along the door, then take a piece of masking tape and put the upper edge of the tape along all of the marks. You now have a straight line to work from. My only problem with this method is, if the rocker panel is not level your door number won't be either.

The best approach to installing vinyl lettering is the "back up and punt method". Separate the two sheets of paper. The lettering will stick to the transfer paper (the paper you can see through) and come off of the heavier wax paper. At this time turn the transfer paper over with the sticky side up and spray the entire surface (lettering and paper) with some sort of application fluid. You can also use a liquid window cleaner. Do not use a multipurpose cleaner.

Once you have the paper wet, place the wet side on the surface and position it as close as possible to where it needs to be. Step back and look at it or have someone behind you to look at it (preferred method) If it isn't straight or needs to be moved, pull it back off and try it again. Do not try to slide it into place. You can reposition two or three times.  By the third time hopefully you will have it in the proper position. At this time take a squeegee and squeegee from left to right or right to left. When you stop getting fluid coming out from behind the paper you can now remove the transfer paper. Be careful when doing this to be sure that all of the lettering is sticking to the surface. If the lettering wants to stay on the paper, put it back in place and squeegee some more. Once you have the paper off, go back over the entire area and squeegee off all of the remaining bubbles in your lettering, if any.
